Null Point: Art Music Uncomposed (Sept)
Building on
Null Point's past work conjugating music and contemporary art, this project examines a range of manifestations of Western Art Music—from scores to concert hall architecture, from composer busts to listening practices—from the standpoint of frameworks such as institutional critique and radical Black thought. Taking the 2020 uprisings as a mandate to dismantle foundations of historically White fields of knowledge, the program interrogates unexamined defaults such as Work, Composer, Spectator, Feeling, and even Music through commissions of new works, together with new approaches to radical 1960s experimental music scores, talks, and more, offline and online.
